PWD Forms Team for Sabarimala 2025 Pilgrimage – Roads, Security & Facilities Boost
The Public Works Department has constituted a special central team to coordinate the Sabarimala Mandalam and Makaravilakku pilgrimage initiatives. The committee has been formed to ensure maintenance of roads, security arrangements and facilities for pilgrims.
Minister for Public Works P.A. Mohammed Riaz said. The committee, which was convened by the Secretary, Public Works Department, included Additional Secretary, K.S.D.P. Project Director, KRFB (PMU) Project Director, Chief Engineers of Roads, Bridges, National Highways and Design Department, Managing Directors of RICH Pradeesh and Vasas.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held to review the preparations for the Sabarimala pilgrimage season.
A Chief Engineer will be appointed to assess the ongoing work in each district. A special investigation team has been formed for each district. The committees have been asked to submit their report by August 25.
The inspections will continue until the end of the pilgrimage season. Nirad Division Executive Engineers have been appointed to coordinate the work of all divisions in the districts. In the meeting, the Public Works Minister directed the officials to complete the ongoing works on time.
Technical approvals and tender procedures should also be completed in a timely manner. All roads should be in a passable condition before the commencement of the Mandala Makaravilakku Yatra.
There are complaints regarding some road accidents, in which safety inspections should be carried out and appropriate measures should be taken.
In view of the devotees coming from other states, signboards should be put up in different languages. The forests on both sides of the roads should be repaired to improve the facilities for the pilgrims.
The Minister said that proper functioning of street lights and drainage systems should be ensured. Rest houses of all devotees should be equipped with necessary facilities. The handles of the bridges should be well maintained. The Minister also directed that the construction of bridges should be completed at the earliest.
Health Minister Veena George was also present at the meeting. Jayaraj, MLA. Matthew. D. Thomas, K.U. Jineesh Kumar, Pramod Narayanan, Vazhoor Soman, Sebastian Kulathungal, Public Works Secretary K.N. Biju, Additional Secretary. Pathanamthitta district collector Prem Krishnan, chief engineers and others were present.
